At Superior Charters, sailing is more than a business—it’s a way of life. That same passion drives Superior Racing, a high-energy initiative led by one of our owners and his sons, who campaign both a J/70 on the national circuit and a J/125 right here on the Great Lakes.
Representing the Apostle Islands Station of the Wayzata Yacht Club, Superior Racing brings visibility to the vibrant sailing community in Bayfield, Wisconsin, and showcases the beauty, challenge, and potential of sailing in the Apostle Islands.
J/70 National One-Design Racing
The Superior Racing team competes in top-tier J/70 regattas across the U.S., racing against some of the best sailors in the country. These events provide a platform to represent Bayfield on the national stage and promote the Apostle Islands as a world-class sailing destination.
J/125 Great Lakes Offshore Racing
Closer to home, the team races their high-performance J/125 in premier offshore and point-to-point events throughout the Great Lakes, including races on Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Lake Huron. This larger, offshore-capable boat allows the team to compete in distance races while connecting with the Great Lakes sailing community—and showcasing the raw power and beauty of Lake Superior.

Get Involved: Experience Racing Firsthand
In addition to our national and offshore campaigns, Superior Charters also participates in mid-distance racing with the Apostle Islands Station of the Wayzata Yacht Club by sponsoring two C&C30 One Design sailboats. These performance boats race on holiday weekends—a fantastic opportunity for small boat sailors looking to step into larger keelboat racing, and for cruising sailors interested in learning the fundamentals of racing. These events are fun, friendly, and a perfect introduction to performance sailing in the Apostle Islands. Whether you’re looking to trim sails, call tactics, or just ride along and learn, we welcome curious sailors aboard.
